Osa Kafeen

A Cozy Café with a Hidden History
Step into Osa Kafeen, a cozy café with a fascinating story. Over 100 years ago, it was built during the construction of one of Norway’s largest hydro power projects, employing 2,200 workers over 11 years. Although the project ended in bankruptcy, the café and a remarkable network of tunnels and shafts remain. Discover this hidden history on our historic “tunnel excursion.”

Situated right next to a mountain river, Osa Kafeen features a garden with seating for at least 25 guests. Inside there is space for approximate 30 guests.  Enjoy the soothing sounds of the stream while tasting delicious pancakes—an experience in itself!

Guests of Hardanger Basecamp and day visitors can enjoy coffee, tea, homemade apple juice, pancakes with home made marmalades, local dishes, Belgian beers, ciders, and ice cream. Overnight guests are treated to a generous “all you can eat” pancake breakfast, featuring at least five different homemade marmalades crafted from handpicked fruits, flowers, and plants.

The café also serves as the starting place for some of our excusriuons or activities.  Rent kayaks, get to know more about edible plants or find out about the fascinating history of Osa. It is also used as a starting point for self-guided hikes in the region with nearby parking.

After exploring the fjord, mountains, and valleys, treat yourself to a well-deserved drink, snack, or meal at Osa Kafeen.
